Infantile basal ganglia stroke after mild head trauma.

چکیده
A 13-month-old boy presented to our hospital with a history of right hemiparesis and right facial paresis for 2 days. These symptoms occurred several hours after a fall from a bed to the ground. AnMRI of the brain showed an ischemic lesion and cerebral ultrasound examinations demonstrated bilaterally hyperechogenic lenticulostriate arteries (figure). Infantile basal ganglia stroke after mild head trauma is a rare condition in childhood. Lenticulostriate artery mineralization, lenticulostriate vasculopathy, is implicated as the pathologic substrate in this type of stroke. Rigid mineralized arteries increase the vulnerability of the vessels to shear injury during mild head trauma.

Ischemic stroke following mild head injury is it the cause.
Recognition of childhood stroke is difficult. Newer diagnostic modalities like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) have made this task much easier. Head trauma usually causes hemorrhage. We are presenting seven cases of mild head injury presenting as ischamic stroke. Neuroimaging suggested infarct involving left basal ganglia and internal capsule in five an...
متن کاملCerebral infarction after mild head trauma in children.
We conducted this retrospective, case record review to determine the risk factors and clinical features associated with cerebral infarction after mild head trauma in children. The median age of the cohort was 2.18 years (range, 6 mo-8 y). Most (26/29) of the patients developed the neurological symptoms and signs within 72 hours after trauma, 51.7% within 30 minutes. The first symptoms included ...
متن کاملTRAUMATIC INTRAVENTRICULAR HEMORRHAGE IN SEVERE BLUNT HEAD TRAUMA: A ONE YEAR ANALYSIS
ABSTRACT Background: High resolution CT scan has made early diagnosis of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) easier. Posttraumatic intraventricular hemorrhage has been reported to a greater extent because of the CT scan. Methods: 904 patients were admitted in the NSICU from March 2001 to March 2002 with severe closed head injury, of those only 31 patients with intraventricular hemorrhage (GCS le...
متن کاملBasal ganglia stroke due to mild head trauma in pediatric age - clinical and therapeutic management: a case report and 10 year literature review
Ischemia of the basal ganglia as an immediate consequence of minor head injury in children is rare (< 2% of all ischemic stroke in childhood) and is due to vasospasm of the lenticulostriate arteries. The clinical history of these lesions is particularly favourable because they are usually small, and also because the facial-brachial-crural hemiparesis typical of this pathology usually regresses ...
متن کاملStroke Modifies Drug Consumption in Opium Addicts:Role of the Insula
Introduction: Addiction imposes a large medical, social and economic burden on societies. Currently, there is no effective treatment for addiction. Our struggle to decipher the different mechanisms involved in addiction requires a proper understanding of the brain regions which promote this devastating behavior. Previous studies have shown a pivotal role for insula in cigarette smoking. In this...
